Offensive Highlights: Neto’s Homer, d’Arnaud’s RBI Double

The Angels’ offense provided some bright spots, with rookie Zach Neto hitting his first home run of the spring, a towering shot to left-center field. Neto, who hit 26 homers and stole 26 bases in 2025, is looking to build on an impressive debut campaign.

Travis d’Arnaud also contributed with an RBI double that scored Jorge Soler from first base.

D’Arnaud, who batted .197 last year with 13 doubles, gave the Angels an early spark. Adam Frazier followed with an RBI single, giving the Angels a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

Soler, who is batting an impressive .429 this spring after hitting .208 with 12 homers in 2025, also doubled in the game.

Trout’s Encouraging Sprint Speed, Adell’s Strikeout Woes

Mike Trout provided an encouraging sign as he tried to beat out an infield hit, reaching a sprint speed of 29.9 feet per second.

Trout, who hit .232 with 26 homers and 87 walks last season, is looking to regain his MVP form.

However, Jo Adell continued to struggle, striking out three times, including with the bases loaded in the fifth inning after challenging a borderline pitch.

Adell fanned 151 times in 2025 despite hitting 37 home runs and driving in 98 runs. Raudi Rodriguez added a two-out RBI single for the Angels.

Defensive Gems: d’Arnaud’s Throw, Moore’s Sliding Stop

Defensively, the Angels showcased some impressive plays. Travis d’Arnaud threw out a runner at home after Adam Frazier’s relay throw.

Christian Moore, playing his first professional game at third base after batting .198 with 7 homers in 2025, made a sliding stop to rob a hit.

Additionally, center fielder José Siri made a nice running catch to prevent further damage. Siri hit just .063 in limited action last year.

Bullpen Struggles Cost Angels the Game

The star of the game for the Angels was undoubtedly starter Alek Manoah, who pitched three scoreless innings and looked to be in midseason form.

Manoah went 13-10 with a 3.88 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 23.4 innings in an injury-shortened 2024 campaign.

While Manoah’s outing was a positive, the Angels’ bullpen faltered late in the game.

Drew Pomeranz gave up a two-run homer, while Kirby Yates allowed a run on three hits but struck out three.

Jordan Romano pitched a perfect inning, but Jayvien Sandridge, acquired from the Yankees, surrendered five runs in the eighth inning after entering with a two-run lead, ultimately costing the Angels the game.

Pomeranz posted a 3.56 ERA over 48.9 innings last year, while Yates had a 5.85 ERA across 36.9 frames.

Romano struggled with a 9.23 ERA in 38 innings, and Sandridge allowed 2 earned runs in just 0.2 innings pitched in his 2025 debut.
